One of the best ways to enjoy the irresistibly crisp, authentically pine-scented air in Big Bear is to take a hike. While there are many to choose from, one of our favorites is Castle Rock Trail. It is a moderately challenging trail that will probably take you under 2 hours to complete, with beautiful views all along the way.

There is free parking at the trailhead and it’s a dog-friendly hike. It is an ideal beginning to your weekend, with options to stop at the Castle Rock sign or to keep going if you enjoy rock climbing. Don’t forget to bring your water and be mindful of the higher altitude!

Coffee and Breakfast

After your hike, you will be ready for a great cup of coffee and something to eat. Moonridge Coffee Company is known for its delicious menu and friendly service, in a cozy mountain cabin atmosphere. Eat inside or take it to go if you’re on your way to the next Big Bear adventure of the day!

Alpine Slide

If you visit when there’s either enough snow for tubing or enough sunshine to play in the water, you will love the Alpine Slide. Southern California’s only authentic bobsled experience begins with a scenic chairlift to the top, and then a thrilling ride down two quarter-mile-long cement tracks.

If you are looking to add an element of play to your romantic weekend, spend some extra time at Magic Mountain Recreation Area, with California’s first and only mountain coaster or the Soaring Eagle ride. The lodge offers snacks and video games, and the whole place is designed to thrill kids and kids at heart.

Window Shopping

Stroll through The Village, a cozy and charming shopping district in Big Bear. You will love window shopping or trying a locally made treat, or making your own candle.
